Blocked and smelly drains are very problematic, and one of the cheapest and most efficient ways to get rid of blockages is to use chemical drain cleaners. Even we don’t really recommend using chemical drain cleaners because they can cause damage to your pipes and to the environment.
If you’re looking to get rid of them, you may want to try your hand at making natural and homemade alternatives that are effective in removing clogs without damaging the pipes. Here is how to make your own drain cleaner.
First, you need baking soda, vinegar, and boiling water. Here’s how you can do it:
1.) Pour 1 cup of baking soda down the clogged drain
2.) Pour 2 cups of boiling water down the drain. This will cause the baking soda to dissolve any grease build-up. Give it a few minutes to settle.
3.) Pour another cup of baking soda, but this time, pour 1 cup of normal white vinegar.
4.) Plug the drain.
The baking soda will react with the vinegar. The soda will foam and sizzle till the reaction dies down. Once the reaction is complete, pour one cup of hot water down the drain. This will help remove any remnants of gunk and grease. The best part about this is that you didn’t even have to resort to using chemical drain cleaners and you don’t even need to call a plumber for help.
You can use this natural drain cleaner for any clogged drain or sink.
